Empowering and Facilitating research for a sustainable Isles of Scilly
Collaborating with local communities to shape research that benefits everyone
About the Isles of Scilly Community Research Network
This network is built on the idea that the knowledge and expertise of local residents are central to understanding and addressing the challenges of island life. Our mission is to create a collaborative space where the voices of those who live and work here are at the forefront, working alongside researchers and organisations to develop solutions that benefit both the islands and the broader world.
The guiding theme of our work is the viability and sustainability of remote island communities. We recognise that the unique context of the Isles of Scilly requires solutions that are rooted in local experience, shaped by the specific needs of our islands, and informed by global perspectives.
The goals of the network are to:
-
Celebrate and amplify local expertise, recognising the vital role that residents play in shaping the future of the Isles of Scilly
-
Foster community-driven research, where local knowledge and lived experience guide and inform research priorities, ensuring that outcomes are relevant and actionable for the community
-
Encourage collaboration between residents, researchers, and organisations to create research that not only adds value academically but also has a direct, positive impact on island life
-
Support sustainable decision-making, using insights from both the community and research to develop solutions that ensure the long-term viability of our islands
By focusing on community-driven research, we aim to ensure that the work we do is meaningful and grounded in the realities of island life. Whether you’re a local resident, researcher, or part of an organisation, your contribution to this network is key in shaping a sustainable future for the Isles of Scilly. Together, we can create a space where the expertise of the community is values, and where collaboration leads to real change.
