Housing on the Isles of Scilly – Stuart Moore
Access to affordable housing is one of the most pressing challenges on the islands.
We’re researching how housing is distributed across the Isles of Scilly – who owns what, how many homes are rented or left empty, and how rents compare to local incomes. The aim is to understand how property ownership, second homes, and rental prices affect the availability of housing for local people.
As part of this study, we’re looking at:
-
The balance of ownership between private individuals, the Duchy of Cornwall, the Council, and second-home owners
-
How many properties are currently being let to local residents
-
How affordable rental homes are compared to the average island wage (£22,827)
-
The number of properties valued over £500,000
-
The scale and impact of holiday lets and unoccupied homes
We hope this research will help identify policy changes that could improve access to housing for islanders
