Hugh Town, Isles of Scilly TR21, UK

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Organisation: Isles of Scilly Community Venture CIC (IOSCV)

Location: Isles of Scilly (no accommodation provided)

Salary: £30,712–£33,169
Closing Date: Monday 19 January 2026 at 10am

An exciting opportunity is available to join the Isles of Scilly Community Venture (IOSCV) as part of the Isles of Scilly Community Research Network delivery team.

Working in partnership with the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust, Five Islands Academy and the University of Exeter, the Community Research Network (CRN) for the Isles of Scilly. The CRN is a community-led initiative that supports local people and organisations to explore meaningful questions about life on the islands. We help community members develop and run research projects, interpret findings, and use evidence to influence positive change for our community and improve life on the islands.

We are seeking a collaborative and community-minded Community Research Coordinator to join the CRN in a permanent role. You’ll work closely with the Network Lead, community members, and island organisations as a key connector to keep research projects moving forward. The role combines community engagement, project support, relationship building, and coordination across both local and regional networks.

This is a role for someone who enjoys talking to people, supporting locally driven initiatives, and helping turn community ideas into meaningful research and action.

This is a (non-exhaustive) list of the types of things we do in the CRN:
Community Engagement & Support
- Talking closely with community members to understand their needs, interests, and research goals.
- Supporting individuals and groups as they develop or deliver community-led research projects.
- Helping ensure projects remain accessible, inclusive, and reflective of community priorities.

Network Coordination
- Engage with local organisational partners and stakeholders (e.g., the Council, charities, the school, businesses) to understand how they can work cooperatively with each other and the CRN.
- Maintain clear and timely communication between the CRN, the Network Lead, and partner organisations.
- Preparing updates, summaries, or short reports for the Network Lead as required.

Strategic & Future Planning
- Contribute to ongoing business and strategic planning for the CRN’s long-term development.
- Gather insights, feedback, and data to support decision-making and future funding opportunities.

Collaboration With Other CRNs
- Build relationships with other Community Research Networks across the UK.
- Attending online meetings or sharing sessions and reporting back key insights or opportunities.

General Coordination & Delivery
- Assist with organising meetings, workshops, and community events.
- Scheduling, note-taking, tracking actions, and keeping project records organised.
- Provide practical support wherever needed to keep the network running smoothly.

You do not need to be able to do everything on this list to apply. If some of these feel like things you can contribute to, or you feel you could grow into the role, we encourage you to apply.

Person Specification:
- Strong communication skills: able to talk with people across the islands and build constructive working relationships.
- Comfortable talking to a wide range of people and listening well.
- Interested in community development, research, wellbeing, or local futures
- Curious, proactive, and ready to take initiative where needed
- Motivated by seeing practical outcomes from local projects.
- Good organisational ability: able to keep track of multiple tasks, coordinate meetings, and maintain clear records.
- Reliable judgement: able to decide what needs attention, when to ask questions, and when to act independently.
- Practical problem-solving: able to move things forward when plans shift, or new challenges appear.
- Ability to summarise information clearly for the Network Lead or partners.

Desirable Experience
- Experience working directly with people in a supportive, coordinating, or community-facing capacity.
- Experience helping organise or deliver projects, events, or community activities.
- Experience working collaboratively with different groups or organisations.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and levels of experience. If you don’t quite meet all the criteria in this person specification, please do still consider applying – you could still be the person we are looking for, especially if you have the passion and interpersonal skills, and the ability and determination to learn the rest.

Benefits:
• 25 days holiday + bank holidays
• Defined Contribution Pension Scheme with 3% employer match on full pay
• Cycle to work scheme
• A supportive, friendly working environment with opportunities for professional development and growth
This role will require frequent travel within the Isles of Scilly, and occasional travel to the University of Exeter campuses in Cornwall and Devon, as well as mainland events further afield.
For more information, please contact Isabel on 01720 575 302 or by email to isabel@ioscv.co.uk.
There’s also an opportunity to meet with the other partner organisations on the 7th/8th January 2026.

To apply, please download and complete the attached application form and send it to isabel@ioscv.co.uk by 10am on Monday 19th January 2026.

Whilst we welcome applications from anyone eligible to work in the UK, applicants not resident on the Isles of Scilly should be aware that Scilly is suffering from an acute housing crisis which severely limits the availability of rental property. Accommodation is not provided with this role, and the Isles of Scilly Community Venture and our partners are severely limited in our ability to assist with finding accommodation on the islands.

About IOSCV: The Isles of Scilly Community Venture is a non-profit community interest company working to develop and manage infrastructure to support the long-term sustainability and viability of the community on Scilly. Our core activities involve generating solar electricity, operating the GO-EV community electric car-share scheme, and managing the public electric vehicle charging infrastructure on the islands. We are also involved in a variety of other projects ranging from operating a LoRaWAN communications network to setting up a food waste composting solution for the islands. We are governed by an independent board of volunteer directors and work closely with local stakeholders including the Council of the Isles of Scilly, the Duchy of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust. We are a small but fast-growing organisation – the successful candidate for this role will become the eighth member of our team.
